What EatAWhale Is

EatAWhale is a personal interest tracker that helps you stay engaged with the things you care about. It is operated by Bit X Bit Labs LLC.

Information We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your profile photo

We only request basic profile information. We do not request access to your contacts, calendar, files, or any other Google data.

As you use EatAWhale, we store the content you create: interests, check-ins, notes, expense records, categories, and tags. This data is yours and exists to provide the service to you.

We also collect basic device information (screen size and device type) to help us understand how our users access the app and prioritize development for the most common devices. This data is not used to identify you personally or shared with any third party.

How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon (neon.tech) in the United States. A copy of your data is also kept locally on your device using IndexedDB to support offline access. The local copy stays on your device and is not shared with anyone.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to provide the EatAWhale service to you. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not train AI models on your data.

Third-Party Services

  • Google OAuth for authentication
  • Neon for database hosting
  • Vercel for application hosting and privacy-friendly traffic analytics
  • Google Analytics for understanding how the public site is used, and for building the advertising audiences described below
  • Stripe for payment processing
  • Google Ads for measuring which ads lead to signups
  • Microsoft Advertising for the same measurement on Bing ads

Each of these services has its own privacy policy.

Cookies and Tracking

EatAWhale uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. We also use Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising conversion tracking, which set a cookie so each can tell us when an ad led to a new account. They report that an account was created, never what you track inside the app.

Traffic analytics come from Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you across sites. We also use Google Analytics, which does set a cookie and does recognize you across repeat visits.

Google Analytics is linked to our Google Ads account with advertising personalization turned on. In plain terms: if you visit this site and do not sign up, we may show you an EatAWhale ad later on other Google properties, such as YouTube, Gmail, or sites in Google's display network. We never learn who you are from this. We see that some number of past visitors were reached, never which ones. It applies only to the public marketing pages, and never to anything you track inside the app.

You can switch this off for yourself at any time. Google's My Ad Center controls ad personalization across everything Google shows you, and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on blocks Analytics on every site that uses it.

Account & Data Deletion

You can permanently delete your EatAWhale account and all associated data at any time. Sign in to your account at eatawhale.com or in the app, open Account, and choose to delete your account. If you cannot sign in or no longer have access to your account, email us at support@eatawhale.com and we will process your request promptly. All associated data is permanently removed from our servers.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you through the app. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated.
