What EatAWhale Is

EatAWhale is a personal interest tracker that helps you stay engaged with the things you care about. It is operated by Bit X Bit Labs LLC.

Information We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your profile photo

We only request basic profile information. We do not request access to your contacts, calendar, files, or any other Google data.

As you use EatAWhale, we store the content you create: interests, check-ins, notes, expense records, categories, and pursuits. This data is yours and exists to provide the service to you.

We also collect basic device information (screen size and device type) to help us understand how our users access the app and prioritize development for the most common devices. This data is not used to identify you personally or shared with any third party.

How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon (neon.tech) in the United States. A copy of your data is also kept locally on your device using IndexedDB to support offline access. The local copy stays on your device and is not shared with anyone.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to provide the EatAWhale service to you. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not train AI models on your data.

Third-Party Services

• Google OAuth for authentication
• Neon for database hosting
• Vercel for application hosting and privacy-friendly traffic analytics
• Google Analytics for understanding how the public site is used
• Stripe for payment processing
• Resend for sending account emails
• Google Ads for measuring which ads lead to signups
• Microsoft Advertising for the same measurement on Bing ads

Each of these services has its own privacy policy.

Connected AI Assistants

You can connect an AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your EatAWhale account. When you connect one, you choose what it may do: see your interests, bites and notes, record bites, add and change interests, or see and record what your interests cost. It can do nothing else. It cannot reach your email settings, your purchases, or account deletion.

What an assistant reads from EatAWhale goes to the company that runs it, Anthropic for Claude or OpenAI for ChatGPT, and is handled under that company's privacy policy and your agreement with it.

For each connection we store the assistant's name, the access you granted, when you connected it, when it last used your account, and one-way hashes of its credentials. We never store the credentials themselves. You can disconnect an assistant at any time in Settings, under Connected Assistants. Signing out everywhere disconnects every assistant too.

Cookies and Tracking

EatAWhale uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. We also use Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising conversion tracking, which set a cookie so each can tell us when an ad led to a new account. They report that an account was created, never what you track inside the app.

Traffic analytics come from Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you across sites. We also use Google Analytics, which does set a cookie and does recognize you across repeat visits.

None of this is used to advertise to you afterwards. We turned ad personalization off in September 2026, so visiting this site does not put you into an advertising audience and does not cause EatAWhale ads to follow you around other Google properties. What analytics answers for us is how many people arrived and how far they got.

If you would rather not be counted at all, the Google Analytics opt-out add-on blocks Analytics on every site that uses it, including this one.

Emails We Send

We send a small number of account emails: a notice before your free trial ends, a notice when it has ended, and occasionally a reminder if you have not opened the app in a few weeks. We never send more than one of these in any two week period.

Every one of them has an unsubscribe link, and you can also turn them off under Settings, Notifications in the app. We record which emails were sent to you and the text they contained, and we record whether you clicked a link in one. We do not track whether you opened an email.

Account & Data Deletion

You can permanently delete your EatAWhale account and all associated data at any time. Sign in to your account at eatawhale.com or in the app, open Account, and choose to delete your account. If you cannot sign in or no longer have access to your account, email us at support@eatawhale.com and we will process your request promptly. All associated data is permanently removed from our servers.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you through the app. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated.
